With regards to pistons. I cant see making more then 300 HP on my new 2.2 motor. Do you think the Mahles would be OK? I know that its not the high boost or power that kills pistons its the detonation and extreme temps. Those last 2 things if ignored will kill any piston, cast or forged. I may end up going with the FWD Mahles and just being really carefull, as I would anyway. The extra $ saved would go a long way towards other stuff. This is a bit of a double post, I just want as much input as possible. Thanks.

Yes. It canand has been done many times.. I would not recommend it with a 2.5L. The ring lands are toofragile. The 2.2L mahles, If set-up right, can do it and more

I ran my 2.2 with Mahles to 337 Whp and a time of 11.52 @ 114.73
I never did the cooling mod to the #4 cyl in the head and that is a MUST.

If you want to be a little safer buy these 2.2 Forged Pistons I have sitting here.
They are Ross, I got them from Relentless Performance but I got one too many sets.
$475.00 plus shipping includes Pistons, Rings, Pins, Retainers.

When you think about it, it is not much more than a Mahle set up.
$135 + $80 = $215 for the Mahle setup and it you plan on pushing 300 hp for a length of time I would spent the extra cash for that little bit of insurance.

They are over sized 40 over.
Not sure on the Pin to be completely honest.
I will ask Gary.

The mod to the head is adding coolant to the side of the head directly next to the #4 cylinder.

Yup. Again and Again the 2.2 pistons have been great to me. 26/27 psi on a stock 88 TII engine. I even bleed the map sensor too much at one point and leaned out. I didn't notice right away for some reason. Pistons survived. Also popped a vacuum hose (that was going to the MAP sensor) and leaned out bad during a run. Pistons survived again. With the 2.5 stock pistons, you don't want to be making any mistakes at that boost level.

Yeah thats where you pop out the freeze plug on the #4 end of the head. Dril and tap two holes and attach the water outlet to there instead of between #'s 3 and 4 on the front of the head. Then you just block off the old outlet and voila. Better cooling across the entire cylinder head.

No, It's a small feed line plumbed directly to the waterpump source at that spot.
