My dad is soon picking up an 88 T2 shelby. The car has a bad rod knock so it needs fixed asap. My dad was wondering if he could pull the crank out will it's still in the car? he and I arnt to sur if theres enough room in the 555 to get to the crank bolts. Thanks alot.

If you pull the tranny then it can be done in the car. The flywheel bolts are behind the clutch so the tranny has to go. Even then it still sucks to do. I'm assuming your are pulling it to get it machined and then install oversized rod bearings. Another thing to look at is how much metal debrie (sp?) there is in the oil pan b/c this can make its way into the oiling system and cause haveck if it's not cleaned out which means you would have to pull the engine as well. Hope this helps a bit. If I'm way off here some one step in.

We figured it was a pain. I guess we'll pull the motor and do a complete rebuild. Thanks for the help!

Not to mention that particular rod may be egg shaped at the main side, so it would need to be resized.

Actually I've rolled rod bearings many times in the car, and am getting ready to do it again (not the same car over and over again mind you )
The only difficult thing if it's a turbo car is that all those stamped transaxle/engine braces need to be removed. Other than that it's cake.
