I need to know what should be done at the shop so my 2.2 block is sturdy and well oiled- - - To support 300whp & 18psi (stage 5 computer).

My Dodge is an 87 Daytona Shelby, but the crank pully has 5 bolts, which tells me maybe someone changed the block?

Do I have to upgrade any bottom-end parts?

Thanks again,

John

do a search and also check out www.thedodgegarage.com, see the turbo section, it will tell you everything you need to know and more. Read it 3 or 4 times, take a break, then read again,

Just forged pistons is all you need. Rods, crank and block are more than sturdy. I run a stock oil pump, as do most.

you can "upgrade" the oil flow with a windage tray or crank scrapers

You may have a late 87' build and you received an 88' style crank. I put a cast T1 crank in my T2 engine, to help the revs. T2 rods, mahle pistons...I plan to run 22 PSI on the super 70 turbo. Only running 10 PSI now though...need the 3 bar MAP to come in the mail so I can install my cal! I plan on 270 WHP, with a stock head and 2.5'' exhaust and 22 PSI. Forged pistons is also not necessary, but would be good insurance against light detonation. Mahles are really good enough. Oh yeah and stock oil pump is fine too, the hi volume just sucks HP and in some higher RPM case can suck the pan dry!!! BAD!

Here's the breakdown for my setup...
87' daytona
87' T2 block
stock swirl head, T2 crossdrilled
T1 cast crank
T2 rods
Mahle pistons, .020 over
stock oil pump
88' roller cam
1 piece intake, stock
ported exhaust manifold
super 70 turbo....48 turbine. 2.5'' SV and exhaust no cat, Bullet muffler
dual stock core intercooler
A520 trans with Chrome Moly Transplate
T2/T3 clutch
Custom cal from TU soon to be installed, 3 bar +40's....2 stage boost settings 16 and 22 PSI.
I plan on 230-240ish WHP on the 16 PSI setting and pump gas. 270-280ish WHP on 22 PSI setting and 100 octane.
According to thedodgegarage.com the non-commonblocks are only good too 250-270 WHP before the block flexes and snaps the crank. I'm gonna be cutting it close according to Gary D, but Joe O'connor made 420 HP on an 87 T2 block so it must be like the luck of the draw.

What is your setup going to be to achieve 300 WHP?

You don't NEED forged pistons to run 18PSI...

Yeah forged not needed, in fact 18 PSI isn't all that much anyway. Once you get over 25 it's still not ''needed'' but should be seriously considered. If you're over 25 you are not running pump gas anyway so you probably built the engine for racing with forged pistons.

Agreed but its not boost that really dictates pistons, its tuning. I ran cast for over a year at 23-29 psi with no issues.
