Ok I was wondering if you could machine a 2.5 commonblock crank to work in a 2.4 DOHC engine? I do remember that someone was working on using the bedplate from a 2.4 on a common block so I assume that the main bearing caps will match up. Thanks in advance.

I'm curious as to why you would want to do this?

The 2.5L has a *very* small stroke advantage over the 2.4L (4.09" vs 3.98"; respectively) because they have the same bore.

Not sure that it can be done anyway

I was beating this idea around with a friend of mine as a possible swap for his Avenger. Since there at least are parts readily available for the hybrid 2.5’s, and the 2.4 block has the same deck height. We were thinking about a 2.4 block with the 2.5 crank, T2 rods, and hybrid Pistons. This is purely a theoretical engine at this point in time. Thank you for your time.

I have heard of 2.4 people using our floating rods and pistons for the 2.5. I think the cranks are going to be different as the 2.4 has a girdle instead of just main caps. If you have both cranks laying around, grab a micrometer and start measuring things. There is always the possibility of using SRT4 internal parts which should be cheaper than custom made parts and the SRT4 block has been up to 500 hp on stock internals so if you build it for 300-400hp, you should be fine. (They ended up killing the SRT4 motor at 500hp after a while.) If it works, then we can tease honda guys about our own "frankenstien" motors.

why not go for a 2.2 long rod srt-4 motor? probally would be easier to have the 2.4 crank offset ground to a 2.5, but i am not sure if that is possible. just shooting around ideas.

the 2.4 cranks runs the oil pump gear that is in the front of the engine.it would be way to much work to make the 2.5 crank work in a 2.4.

Go to www.bstockum.com. He's been using 2.5L rods in 2.4L engines for several years now.

Not sure what the benefit of a 2.5L crank would be....just use better bearings.

The 2.4 motor in the (Avenger, Stratus, Breeze, Caravan, & Neon) Does not have a stud Gridle in them.... Just the pain in the can balance shafts just like the 2.5 does. I have rebuilt a 97 Breeze (Pain in the A55) Other then that the idea of Hybriding the 2 might be cool....... My suggestion would be to break out the tape measure and head down to a local junk yard and see id the have an old core motor that you could tear into and do some research on it.........

P.S. If you do that keep me informed in what you find......Thanks

The differences in stroke don't justify the labor to make it work. As for 2.5 roda and pistons in a 2.4 then yes it works just gives you blower motor compression. If anyone has the last issue of Mopar Now, the red Neon that was turbocharged, ave the owner had used the setup on his 2.4's before. He just had to mill to bring compression up a little.

That would be about right because on the FloridaNeons board he was just turbo dave. He brought the car to our meet year before last and he drove it to NOPI the same year using a distributor and R/T electronics. The car has since been dismantled and sold off.
