This engine has roughly 50K miles on it,when I tore my engine down I noticed that the OUTSIDES of main bearings 1 and 5 had more wear than the rest of the bearing..and alot less wear than the mains #'s 2,3,4. There was copper showing through. Is this normal.or is this WRONG?

The oil light was coming on at hot idle as well as the guage falling off..but the oil pressure sending unit was leaking too.

They probably don't get as much oil as the others, and running it with low oil pressure caused them to wear.

Have your block and crank checked for straightness, something is amiss. Also, could be badly out of balance, that will chew up bearings. I just recently got a used engine with 150,000 kms and the bearings were still good, no copper or abnormal wear marks, ditto for my old engine.

I'm having the same problem on a freshly rebuilt motor (50 miles and counting). I'm interested in finding out why ... (now subscribing to this topic )
