I know that the 2.2 changed from 10mm bolts to 11mm bolts in "mid" 1985, but when was the actual change put into effect? I am asking because I am changing the head on my 85 GLH and I want to change the headbolts at the sametime too. I also want to have everything I need ahead of time. I think they will be 10mm but can't be sure without pulling one out beforehand. This is just a stock 2.2 HO carb motor, nothing real special so I figure if it has the 10mm bolts those will be fine (its a resto, not a race project). Anyone?

All the 85 Model year cars I've worked on had 10mm bolts.

There are many 86 model year engines that were actually made in late 85, these would have the 11mm bolts.

Thanks Dave. I thought that was the case. From what I found out today from an oldtimer......if it was a turbo motor in 85 it got the 11mm bolts. If it was NA motor it got the 10mm bolts. All motors in 86 model year got the 11mm bolts. So, in this thinking.....since the GLH is an 85 model year it should have the 10mm bolts as its an HO carb motor.

I believe the 11mm bolts also have an "11" on the head of the bolt.
