can I go 300 WHP with a 2.5L T-1 with stock internals?

I am in the process of building up a 2.5L T-1 for my 1990 Daytona Shelby. Now I just need to know if I can build up a stock 2.5L T-1 so it will be able to run 12's and pump out right around 300 WHP. I know everything I plan on doing. I already have a big spearco FMIC, TU fuel rail, and +40's with the TU AFPR. I know I have lots to get. I am just wondering is this possible to achieve with the stock internals of the 2.5L T-1? Any help is very much appricated.

It can be done, but those cast 2.5 pistons will be on the ragged edge. You'd have to be paranoid about no detonation at all to keep them in one solid peice.

See, I am thinking about just going with JE's but I do not really want to. I can get a complete 2.5 motor with 17,000 original miles on it and in good running condition for $300 from my friend. I really would hate to have to put new pistons in it though. That would suck.

I wouldn't expect a 15 year old engine to handle 300 WHP unrebuilt no matter how many miles are on it. Seriously, do it once and do it right. 2.5's are notorious for breaking pistons so forged slugs are a good investment. The rods/crank/block can be bone stock.
What turbo are you going to run? Exhaust? Head? And this is all on pump gas correct? I'd also recommend a custom cal from TU.

Enforcer 2 head, Super 60 turbo, no race gas, i would only use that kind of boost at the track other than that. i would run 15psi.

300 WHP with 15 PSI? NO!
Do you already have the turbo?
Buy a steve menegon head for $1300 before spending 1300 on an enforcer 2!

I ran a 2.5 at 300HP ish on cast pistons, and they would break all the time. I could change them in about 4 hours after a while! I couldn't do cals back then, and I had one that probably had way too much advance for a 2.5, but as long as I kept a stout mix of race gas in the tank the pistons would make it for a few months of abuse before cracking. I think there are people out there running stock pistons pretty hard, I've done some 25 PSI cast piston cals and haven't had any breakage reported... It's going to come down to how well you set the car up. It it were me, I'd be getting forged, I beat the snot out of my Venolias for 3 years and the motor hasn't been apart yet.

Just bolt on your turbo and consider the engine disposable.
