I am a new dodge turbo owner, and when i got my car back from the shop, they did not hook up my wastegate, and i was wondering why i was running 15+ pounds of boost, while my car was on steroids on wouldnt run it too hard but when i would stomp on it i would hear a rattling sound after i passed 11 psi. ( im guessing that is detonation????) well after i hooked the wastegate, my boost gauge read 4 psi, but then the control arm got disconnected, but thats easy,
my problem now is, when i punch it with NO boost, im hearing a bit of rattling on top end ( 5000rpm ) what is that????

Its possible it might just be lifter noise. I hate to say it but it also might be something more serious, you may have possibly damaged something when you were running over 15psi. Best thing to do is to do a compression test and see if any of your cylinders have low compression, If you do, you may have possibly cracked a piston. If not you may just have lifter tick or who knows what, these engines tend to be a little noisy.

Was it rattling before your 15 psi boost sessions?

that depends on a few aspects of the car, such as timing and spark plug gap. fuel/spark knock can be irritating if you drift from stock numbers too much.

This could be a rod noise too. I think if there is too much sideways clearance on the big end the rod slaps against the crank, causing a rattle at certain rpm's.

Seen as he hasn't been back on, it could be his cam, some heads are bloody noisey, I went thru 3 of them to get a quite one! He could be hearing that and assumed it was because of his overboost!
