I just caught myself thinking.... would it be possible to mount one of our engines in a 1st gen neon? Are the mounts on the block anything alike? and does anyone know if the turbo would clear the firewall? just wondering....

They also have bore spacing in common, since the heads can be swapped between them. I think this is a valid question your bashing.

i dont think thats the answer hes looking for...LOL. you could measure the mounts. i think its inpossible to put a 2.5 in a neon because of the wire harness and all the other dohickes newer cars have. james

Isn't there someone on here that swapped a 2.2 or 2.5 into a first gen Neon? Same guy that swapped chrysler electronics into a really mean SVO Mustang and had an unbelieveably restored 86 GLHS?

Perhaps he could help. . .

I read once that a turbo talon engine was swapped into the body of a new mirage. Yes a 2.5L td engine can be swapped into a neon. I have scene two sites where it have been done. One guy intalled both a TII, and later a T3. Do a search here or on google.

Neil Emiro did it to his neon. The mounts are not far off really. The electronics would have to be swapped.

Really it is probably better to turbo a 2.4 and put that in. The 2.4 bolts into a neon pretty easily, and turbo stuff is easy for those.

Yeah.. I have a hard enough time keeping axles lined up in cars meant to have these engines, I can't imagine the problems it'd have when rigged into some other vehicle..

Axles are no problem. I'm not sure about your issues, but the axles fit right into the neon after you swap the hubs and bearings for the TD size ones.

Thats actually not that hard of a swap. You see, the mirage is basically the Lancer. Yes, that Lancer, as in with LOTS of bracing, different suspension parts, etc the mirage becomes the Lancer evolution. There have been people who swap the whole AWD drivetrain too, but this is less common.

This was actually done about 4 years ago before the evo hit our shores. Still, I was not aware the lancer was that close to the mirage, but giving it thought makes me feel a bit naive. BTW, I am Purpose from CSI. Glad to see you made it over here

Cool... followup question... will the 2.0 sohc neon head fit the 2.4 caravan block AND mount in the neon? (I have junkyard friends and know someone who will let me have a neon with a bad motor for $50, so i'm itching to make a cool 1st gen neon)

yes the 2.0 sohc head will fit on the 2.4. It would be a lot easier to keep the dohc head and you'll get more power with it. Check out www.neons.org. Check out the fourms there. They have a fourm for motor swaps with neons
