Main cap girdle, opinions??

I've noticed a couple times flipping through Summit that Ford sells main cap girdles for 5.0s and 351s that connect all the main bearings together for better strength, and I was curious about making one for a 2.2/2.5L, anyone have any input? I don't know how beneficial it would be as opposed to a five-point-slow, but I figured if I was gonna try to build a higher HP/Tourque motor or try to get more rpms out of it, it might help to strengthen the bottom end up a bit. Any input would be appreciated.

I was also thinking about machining something similar. I think your money would be best spent with a longer rod/shorter piston and arp head/main/rod fasteners. Then, if you have $$ left over, an additional girdle couldn't hurt. All of this is based on the assumption you had a common block with the forged 2.2 crank.

I'm just getting ideas for future projects, if I did something that would warrant me bracing the bottom end like that I'd have better parts than what I'm using now.

If your gonna do that, then you may as well get a 2.4 block and build that. I think it would be very expensive to try to get one made for our older blocks. It's a great idea, but our bottom ends are pretty stout to begin with.

If I remember correctly someone on the forum (before the last revision), was looking at using the 2.4 bead plate on a common block.
