I'm going to order some pistons here in the next week or so and a set of the t2 rods and I have a few questions.

When ordering the pistons, are the turbo pistons for turbo1 setup for the full floating pin or do i need to specifically order turbo2 pistons?

My next question is where do i get appropriate wrist pins for the t2 rods and a set of cast pistons. Or do new pistons come with new pins?

As far as looking up pistons an 87 shelby daytona t2 would have which engine vin of A would it not?

The engine these are going in is an production 87 carburated engine that recieved my t1 top end, and now is getting the t2 treatment and i'm ready to ditch the 9.5:1/cr, it still has the bathtub head and the later t2 pistons are going to drop c/r in the 7's it looks like.....pretty low but its not a daily driver

I think I have the right stuff for everything, its just i really can't afford to do this right now but i'm going to anyway, so i'm want to be extra sure i get the right stuff

New pistons come with new Pins, unless you have some oddball brand.

First, where are you buying these pistons? I suggest you get some Mahle pistons from FWD-Performance. They are the best cast pistons you can get.
It would be vin code A.
Make sure that bathtub head is a turbo head, if it's a TBI or carbed head you have to atleast change the exhaust valves or else they melt. Turbo engines received valves that were rated for higher temperatures.

Yes its a carb head. It has 5000 miles so far with a turbo and I thoughly inspected seats and valves for burning and they are perfectly fine. If i have a problem, I'll change the valves and possibally seats then, or just swap heads and update the next one. I have more than enough good cylinder heads that require no machining to run I've already checked them.

I am not buying forged pistons because I am not refitting the bores. This is a low budget thing if the motor fails, then I'll build a real one. FWD Performance only lists STD bore cast pistons for turbo1 cars, but it says they come with pins and clips which leads me to believe they'll work with turboII rods correct? But it also says pressed pins....but a pressed pin needs no clips so its kind of condradictory.

I was down to the parts store doing some digging and found that VIN A shows up at 16 valve.......

Vin E showed up at 8 valve in 87 daytona turbo z (thats a turbo II car is it not)

The way things are looking the float/non floating pin changes nothing with the piston or pin. Anyone able to verify this?

Most replacement pistons are replacements for T-II's. They are the same as T-I's except the pistons are grooved for pin retainers. So you can use T-II's on a T-I but not the other way around.

Thanks

So will the turbo1 std. size pistons fwd performance sells work?

They say turbo1 press pin, comes with clips and wrist pins, makes me think they'll work for both.....?

Call/email/pm Cindy and ask. She would know better than us!

I believe that is what you want though. Are you still using the weak TBI rods?

I emailed her two days ago, got a responce today, no new std size, just .020's over.

I ordered a set of stock sized t2's from forward motion.
