i would like to thank all of you for the amazing info i have received from this forum. i have placed a 89-turbo caravan and auto tranny in my 87 once carburated omni. she hauls ass and at 13 pounds of boost off the line it rips like no ones business. i do feel the engine drop off at about 5000 rpm.
its one of those 2.2/2.5 posts i guess but let me ask this...

with a 2.5 building torque how can anyone go wrong. i have met a guy here in edmonton with a typhoon, the turbo 4.3 liter all wheel drive blazer. he has 25 pounds running to it and in the quarter mile has got 10.85 i believe is his best. he has 400 horsepower and 750 foot pounds. a heavy truck with roll cage and all the options. his redline is 4000 rpm. early shifts.

with a built 2.5, intercooled, bigger turbo, forged pistons, true honed intake exhaust and turbo, 2 stage boost control with 15 pounds off the line then 20 psi, 3spd manual throttle body auto shifting before the kill of 5000 rpm, how could i go wrong??? just my thoughts. horsepower in IMO is for the honda guys. i want real power!!

is there really no replacement for displacement??.. any replies will be great. thanks for you time, Jay

Sounds like you've got one quick budget mobile. Isn't 15lbs. off the line a little high? I've got my son's Spirit set up with a 2 stage(stage 1 to wastegate no restrictor, computer control. Stage 2 graingered to 13lbs.)and traction is still an issue with the little torque monster 2.5. 5psi. and the tires still light up.

you autos and your damn torque converters

i do miss leaving the line in my eclipse at 18psi.. in an awd car it will push the crap right out of your ass

your omni sounds like its going to be a screamer, keep it up!

My preference is for torque too. I would put a 2.5 CB in my omni tomorrow should the 2.2 go in it. That being said, there are many people who have said that the 2.5 has too much torque for such a light car off the line, and that it is very hard to hook with it. I am sure that someday I will find out.

thanks alot for the info so far guys.

as for such a small car hooking up of the line i will use a 2 stage boost controller. im just woried about the stock pistons and the true benefits from getting foged pistons, i understand that they are stronger and that they can take a lil more detonation than their stock counterparts but who runs them and tell me the story on what made you change. thanks again, Jay

ah yes the car now has a mitsushi$%y turbo on it and no intercooler, so i just dont understand the power to be had with a larger turbo and having an intercooler at 13-15 pounds. if i spin off the line wich i usually dont unless i torque it up, both tires spin and not just one. but i do have 155/85 r13 's on it. what a sleeper. might even make a mini feel jeleous.

The bigger turbo will cause a bit more lag, which may be beneficial in your case, but flows more volume with less exhaust restriction. The extra volume cooled through an intercooler gives you a dense charge which creates more power with less detonation.

If you want a chance at that typhoon you need to do the following.

Go CB forged pistons & T2 rods w/ cast crank.
24-28psi coming out of a super 60 or 70 w/ .63 A/R
Ported & polished high flow head w/ bigger valves
52lbs injectors (+40's)
255 fuel pump
3bar map & custom computer SMEC (TU rocks there)
Spearco Intercooler would be your best bet
3" exhaust w/out cat

There is more junk just can't think, but that would probably get you where you can at least compete with him. Boost might need to be higher too. Beef the hell out of the tranny too!!
