Alright, well the engine in my 89 turbo voyager bit the dust. I am either looking to replace stock, partial build/ full build.

If I did the full build it would be a while before i had the car up and running due to funds.

I was just going to get some new pistons/rods ( stock) and rebuild it like that.

I am going to be turning this into a track warrior down the road, so it will be taking signifiantly more abuse then a stock, or near stock van.

What would everyone reccomend doing as far as the rebuild? Are there any webpages that might help me out when removing/installing the engine back in the car?

Last question. Is anyone running running 2.2's in the vans instead of 2.5's? From what I read the 2.5's start loosing power up top, and the turbo i will be using is a little laggy.

Thanks, and any other advice is greaty apriciated.

mines got a 88 2.2 at frist it had the mish. but spiked too much and started smokeing so i swaped a garret on to it. runns good now, van had a 2.5 when i got it but was loseing oil press when warm/ 2.5 was a reman but the piston were not o/e or name brand so i install my xtra turbo motor . i think it would run beter with a cust. cal. but will wait till i have funds to redo 2.5. i get 300 to a tank. so milage is not off that much/ i ran my daytona z smec in it i got beter mileage but check engine light was on no air charge temp. with out lots of work they aren,t that fast, just ask big psi. als

Personally.. I would do a complete Short block rebuild. I am sick of messing around with engine's that may be good. IF the engine shop says you can get away with a partial rebuild then I guess since they know what they are talking about it would be ok.

There's nothing wrong with waiting to get your car/van on the road as long as you dont need it right away. If your going to though, make sure you do it right.

It's not very hard to take the engine out or put it back in.. just time consuming. Everything is pretty much straightforward, with the exception of a few things.. (timing belt/distributor/etc) You should get one of the books that tell you how to do everything from a car parts seller. Or.. I think Chrysler still sells them and they are the best imo. I actually marked some parts so I knew were they went and my bell housing bolts/starter bolts I stuck in a peice of cardboard and labelled them.

I am in the same boat as you...

I am going to keep the same rods and crank have them checked out, then run some forged Wiseco pistons and rings, new bearings and ARP rod bolts. That should be a good enough bottom end to go 12's, if I get that fast. The most exspensive things are going to be the pistons and machine work. As long as the machine shop doesnt charge too mcuh I should be able to have a nice shortblock for $1000
