OK, all. I have a 4 cyl. Chrysler motor, which I believe is a late 93 or 94 engine. (Casting is in December of 1993). Is there an easy way to tell if it is a 2.2 or a 2.5 engine???

Thanks!!!

from the little I know, the easiest way is to see if there are balance shafts. If you are talking about non-turbo... the 2.5 has dished pistons and the 2.2 is a flat-top w/ valve reliefs. Although, I don't think the 2.2 was produced past 1993 but I'm not for sure. When I worked for Chrysler back in 1994 I don't remember seeing any 2.2 information for any of the cars.

OK, I'll check the engine tomorrow, but I'm sure that it has balance shafts, since the oil pan looks HUGE. Thanks!!!

I just walked thru my shop and took a quick look, the 2.2 common pans have a slight oil sump near the drain plug. and all the 2.5 has a flat bottom. As I recall the 2.2 ceased to exist after 1992 (not really sure on the exact date)

Wasn't the 2.2 discontinued in 89? with the exception of the Turbo 3 & 4.

What kinda car is it? If its a ..well I pretty much gaurantee its a 2.5 if it's an N/A car.. heh.

Oh.. Im thinking of the T1 2.2. According to Allpar the 2.2 N/A wasn't discontinued 'till the last year of both the 2.2/2.5 (1994).
