It is when there is a ring around each of the cylinders.
The ring is raised higher than the block itself.
The intention of the o-ring is to create a better seal on the head gasket.
Most people who o-ring their block run a copper head gasket.

Hope that helps.

See the ring?

Relate it to wood working. To you want a weak butt joint (end to end).. or a tongue and groove joint? Obviously the tongue and groove is much stronger.. O ring is same concept.

Excellent picture.

agreed, excellent picture.

From what i've heard, an o-ringed block may be overkill for most of us, but some swear by it cause of the beautiful headgasket problem out td's seem to run into all the time. But i also hear working with a copper gasket is not all its set out to be, the head has to be perfectly machined or it wont seal...each one has a trade off.

My opinion, i think the mopar gasket is great, but once you start running 30psi boost, you may want to think about the o-ring

I had my block o-ringed but I use a regular head gasket. It has really helped in keeping them alive. I run 20 psi and 60 shot of nitrous and never had a problem with the head gasket. I think of it as extra insurance.

I was running over 30 psi in my shadow on a regular basis.
I never really had a headgasket problem.

However, The new engine blobk will be o-ringed, copper head gasket (custom made by engine shop), and the new ported head will have a receiving groove cut into it is the exact location as the o-ring on the block. It should make for a great seal.
