If I were to come up with a common block, will it bolt into my '87 "J" body as the original one did? Is the block the same for turbo and N/A configurations?

Should work. I bolted a common block into my 87 daytona. It was an N/A block. I just cross drilled it and drilled an oil return hole and that's the only difference between common block N/A and turbo.

Will a C/B work with my '85 "G" head too?

G head will work, you will lower compression a little. The engine will bolt up, I have a 90 common block mated to a 87 520 in a 84 voyager. I didn't have any problems installing it.

In some cases the early 287 G head might not fit depending on the Bolt hole centers. The common block has 11mm head bolt holes and the early blocks had 10mm. If you run into a problem just drill out the hole to a larger dia in the head.

Yes, I plan to have the holes tapped to 11mm, in addition to getting the intake and header port matched and a three angle valve job. I don't expect to pick up much horsepower, but I'm not leaning in that direction anyway. I want efficiency and reliability out of the engine. I also found another '87 Lebaron 'vert 2.2 turbo I for $475. I think I can get it cheaper, and that way rebuild the engine and swap it straight out for the old one, like I'm doing with my truck.

Let me know if you need any of those machining services performed. We could work out a package deal for you.
