Just wondering if I'm missing something here. the motor in my 87 charger had puked a cylinder a year ago. I pulled the top end, pan etc. replaced the bad piston #3. Re-ringed everything using moly rings. On the top end I took the oppertunity to replace the valve stem seals. Also added +20 injectors
Put the motor back together , it seemed to run fine but rich with a bit of smoke, Cylinder 3 keeps fouling plugs. I got a adj FPR to take the fuel back to around 43# a/f meter seems like the motors happier. I then added a mopar 413 cam with the stock valve train parts and a Findaza adj cam pulley (cam centered at + 13 deg. ) Car still runs hot and smokes.
Tonight I was going over things and noticed when I went to rotate motor by hand it was near impossable...yes it was out of gear.
When I check compession I read 140, 145, 152, 150 repectively.
I checked with a leakdown tester and all good there and I pressured the cooling system up to 30 lbs no leaks.
Is this motor too tight are the rings still seating, am i missing something simple??
The motor only smokes under acceleration, and only boils over at shut down. other than that i could drive her all day with no problems.
Any ideas drop me a line

CM rings do take a while to seat, but if #3 got hot when the piston went, how did the head look? maybe a hairline crack?

Didn't see anything cracked. I did have a "local" shop also check it and nothing. I know I had seen many of thes with the infamous hairline between the valves. Still really concerned on how tight this dern thing is.

did you match the piston to the bore? You know how there are A, B, C, and D piston sizes, maybe the replacement was a little big???

All I did was ordered a sealed power std. and a full set of std rings. never really gave it much thought . I figured it worked when I puked a piston on an old N/A omni once....
The plug is fouled on 3 all the time and you can see the piston looks wet when I put the scope in the cylinder, no scarring on the walls that I can see usin the scope

Bad injector? Could be leaking a set amount of fuel. Enough to foul out the plug at an idle, and enough to lean it out at cruise...

You may have an out of round cylinder or a bottom end issue. I had the exact same issue with a 1986 lancer. bought the car with a bad #2 piston. installed a good used one. about 1 week later I spun that rod bearing. I suspect that the bearing was gas washed due to the detonated piston allowing raw gas to that rod bearing. even though I properly assembled the bearing and lubed, I think the bearing may have already been damaged and I just didn't notice.
