I know it has been asked but I can't find it. What is the standard way to tork down ARP head studs? What is the final tork lb amount?

Most guys torque to around 87 ft lbs make sure you pre stretch the studs which means torque 4 to 5 times and loosen.Otherwise you may have head floating problems after they are stretched they will quit snapping while torqueing.

so is it just 87, or is it like the stock ones where you go to 65, then 1/4 turn?

i thought since the stock bolts were torque to yeild that the 1/4 turn was to stretch them?

wouldnt that mean this doesnt apply to the ARP's? i can't imagine the ARP's stretching if you can reuse them. seems like they would be no good pretty quickly if they stretched like a stock bolt.

Direct from ARP

Here are the correct Torque Specs for ARP Head Bolts too.

Torque for M11 bolts using ARP Moly Lube is 75 ft/lbs.
Torque for M11 bolts using 30wt engine oil is 90 ft/lbs.

Torque for M11 studs using ARP Moly Lube is 70 ft/lbs.
Torque for M11 studs using 30wt engine oil is 85 ft/lbs

I talked to tech at arp when I had a head floating problem when they are new they need to be torqued 5 times to pre stretch before final torque after that it doesnt need to be done again.

No, they are not like the stock head bolts, they are not torque to yield.

The instructions I got with mine are

ARP lube, aluminum head 65ft/lbs
ARP lube, cast head, 70ft/lbs
30Wt oil, cast head, 85ft/lbs

So I guess do the math for 30wt oil with alumumium head. They don't list that reading. For the price of a tube of ARP lube, not worth using oil, and your guaranteed a proper reading and no stiction on the bolt head and washer.

Note, I run mine at 70 ft/lbs at 29 psi and zero issues with a MP gasket. I saw on here, some guys are cranking the torque up to 80 or even 90 ft/lbs on high HP engines.
