Bad day today! I've been putting together a collection of parts to rebuilt an 89' CB to put in the mini. Finally have everything and I decided it was time to get to it. Blasted it to prep it for a new paint job and discovered a crack in the block. (The threaded hole for the turbo coolant return) A friend told me it might be possible to braze it to seal it up and prevent it from getting any worse and\or leaking. Well, it didn't work and the block cracked in two other locations around the expansion plug holes. I wasn't surprised, I'd never heard of anyone doing it, most people just throw the block out instead of taking a chance on it. So now it's a boat anchor and I'm looking for another block.

That sucks. Been there, done that with a friend's engine. Ended up with a DIY hone job on the problem cylinder in the old block with new rings. The cracked block is just chillin' in the storage garage for now.

i had the same problem with mine. My crack was about 1/2'' long running stright up from the coolant return line. I put a carbide bit on my drill and drilled the crack out filled it in with JB weld and waited till it was good and dry then taped it for the new coolant line. been that way for about 2 yrs now not a drop of coolant has come out of it.

That really sucks, it probably froze at one time. Mine cracked at the base of the water jacket on the rear of the engine, no idea why. Had it welded by a guy that does only that for a living. He welds up junk Ferry heads, blocks etc and makes them usable again. Mine has held so far, put about 6 months of abuse on it before melting some pistons, doh!

I have a spare block kicking around, if your interested, let me know. Price, no idea, I jsut paid $150 for a short block that I am using now while I rebuild my main engine with forged pistons.

Thanks for the offer but the freight from B.C to Timmins would be more than what the Mini is worth!!! I've got an 87 daytona, TII w\ 5spd. It's parked for the winter but the rust is getting pretty bad. I'll probably retire it and pull the drivetrain for the van (5 spd van ,Aahhhh , I like that idea). I'll just put the tona in a corner and make a project car out of it. I've always wanted a RWD turbo daytona. Truth is, it'll probably just end up at the wreckers. I've got lots of time, just not lots of money!

I can't remember how fast it went, whether it was 8's or 9's, it really moved though. It just looks super cool, there's more pic of it on my webiste under cordova 04 events (even though I don't have any of the other pics i took up, might work on that tonight some)
