A friend of mine was a test bed for their top gapless ring...he actually ran a second ring that had NO tension(due to rules saying you HAD to have 3 rings...otherwiase he would have left it out). This was in a round track car. He SWEARS by them. Next engine will have them for me. The ones he tested you had to clean the cylinder walls completely off(NO lube), and they provided a test "fluid" of some sort to tell you if they were ready. If you put lube on the walls the rings wouldn't seat.....Cool stuff IMHO...

Other than the price difference b/t the 1st ring gapless set and the 2nd ring gapless set, is there a performance difference? Do the sets serve different applications? Say your running less than 20# boost and cast/forged @ 20 over, would one set be better suited for this appication, versus +20# boost? Looking to do a rebuild in the future, '89 2.2CB, T2 rods, forged crank, mahle .020 over pistons and less than 20# boost.

Thats what I am getting, gapless top and 2nd ring. Just give them a call and ask questions or check out there website, can't remember, just use the search engine.
They give you more power as there is no leakage, aka blowby, they maintain less than 2% for the life of the ring set. Amazing stuff.

Check out the website, basically, it overlaps itself, think off steel tubing! then one size larger, thats how they do it.

Which I assume would be up to 100+ thousand miles, depending on how well the engine is cared for. Okay. New question, with the almost no blowby, and increased compression that results from that, wouldn't that make the motor more prone to detonation? Or is the increase in compession negligable in comparison to increasing the compression ratio? The numbers of ~180-185 across the board makes me think more likely the former than the latter.

Your right, I got mine and there only top ring gapless. Don't know why he told me both were gapless,

Oh well, just waiting for my other block to be punched out, then off we go. Probably have it running in April.

Now, with the gapless rings..... are the top always the gapless set, or can you get the 2nd gapless instead?
