Ok i see people selling the pistons with the bigger .927? pins

Are they stronger compared to the .901s or do they actually weaken the small end due to having to bore out the bushing a lot

Just asking because im in the market for pistons AGAIN!!!!!

Well, back in the day the deal on the stock pins was something about pin flex and hammering out the c-clips on the T2 pistons. The problem is that if you go with the Chevy pin, you have to bore out the bushing on the rod. The problem with that is that the bushing is brass-dipped steel, not solid brass. If you put a solid brass or bronze bushing in there, it is too thin and tends to fall apart. So, you have to bore out the end of the rod to put in a bigger bushing.

All that said, I have not heard of anyone breaking the end of their rod off. Anyone? Also, I am not sure how true the pin-flex problem is in the first place.

exactly mini If the .901 are fine then thats what i will get

I have been told that the reason the .927 are being offered is because thats the standard chevy bushing so it saves the vendors or the manafacutres money

That's what I heard also. When I bought my venolias the bushings had to be honed just a little for the .901 pins.

Why not use a smaller, stronger, and lighter pin? I use a .866 pin, hundreds of runs, no problems. Warren

The reason for the .927 pins was to help with piston rock at TDC & BDC due to the rod angles. It gives the piston a larger fulcrum to pivot on and therefore keeps it centered in the bore better, and reduces some of the side thrust. At least this is the theory that was handed to me. I agree on the lighter pin thing though...I will look into that for Über motor when the time comes...

^ .95? Never heard of that being used in one of our engines. I too think that is too big and "could" cause issues, not to mention adding weight to the reciprocating mass...not a good thing.
