Anyone Ever Use Chevy Rods In Our 2.2/2.5 ? They Are Suppossed T Be Identical From What I Heard.

I have a friend who has ti chevy tods in his 2.2 but he had to destroke his crank to make them fit.

They are not identical but can be made to work. On a stock uncut crank you will need .030 over Chevy bearings. This yields .002 clearance. Iam using 6.2" small journal (Chevy 283) and 2.5 pistons in a 2.2. The part that is really different is the width. A Chevy rod is .940" wide on the big end and a 2.2/2.5 is 1.014" wide. That yields a total of .082 side clearance when using a Chevy rod. I felt like that much clearance wouldn't work too well. On one side, the Chevy rod is wider than the other, so I have welded up the more narrow side, and Iam in the process of reworking the welded side. Iam going to end up with around .020 side clerance. I can live with that! If I ever buy another set Iam going to call the vendor and see if they will finish machine a set wider. Everything else will work great on a 2.2. On a 2.5 you will run into piston height problems unless you can find the proper length rod.
