I'm about to re-ring my 2.2l block while it's in the car and was wondering what the correct procedure is for that. From what I have read on this forum it's fairly easy. Just:
1) take the head off
2) Take oil pan out
????? 3) Pull pistons out - now here is where do I get lost. Do I unscrew the rod bolts and take the pistons out with the rods or is there a way to take out the pistons without separating the rods from the crank?
4) Pistons come out from top
5) Hone (optional) depending on the shape of the cylinder walls
6) Put new rings in pistons
7) Reassemble

If anyone can help with some advice or can point me on the right direction that would be great.

Thanks, Everyone.

That's pretty much it. Yes, you have to remove the rod caps and take the rods with the pistons. Wrap the bottom of the rod with a cloth or something when removing/installing. Do not let them touch the cylinder wall. Don't skip step 5 for new rings. Lay a clean rag over the crank when you are honing and when you are done you have to clean the bores really, really well.

Thanks Minimopar that answers my questions. I will give it a go.

Also is ball honing OK or is there another better way to do it?? I was told I can buy/borrow a honing machine for cheap and do it myself. Any advice on that? Any problem when honing with the engine in the car?

Thanks again, Alex.

Ball honing is the best way, I don't like the bar hones, I have had too much trouble with rings not seating.
If you can afford to buy a honing machine, you must be rich,
Seriously, there expensive and you have to strip your block down. Good luck.
As Russ says, make sure to cover the crank with a rag so as not to cover the journals with grit and clean your bores etc well after your done honing.
