I doubt you could find one without awesome luck and some hard seaching. Why by a brand new block when you could probably pick up a used common block engine for 50-100 bucks at a junkyard? Then you could have it redone to your specs, and then you'd be able to rest easy knowing it was done /right/. That's what I am doing.

88 t1 pn 4387652 superseeds to 4336742 then to 5241097 have your dealer check those numbers on the locater there are 2 dealers in the country that show it, but beware list is like $1900. They would prolly let it go for cheap. I checked other years and engines but no luck. Oh and its a short block (block, crank and pistons), chrysler never sold a bare block.

Without fail, that engine in that ebay auction has likely been taken apart and put back together more times that you would want to count.

It's not fresh, it's definitely rebuilt, over and over and over and over. They had a Turbo-1 engine at the Red Deer College when my brother did a few automotive courses there. It had been apart numerous times in it's 10 year stint at the college.

The argument for a new block: It's shiny

The argument for a used block: It's heat cycled and will perform better

I know which one I'd use for a build up.

Later,
Craig

I would not buy that ebay motor for several reasons:

1. The seller apparently has a bad history with TD- do a search on his name

2. That motor was a training tool. It probably has been apart dozens of times so people could learn how to do it.

3. I was reading in the 2.2 performance book that a new block should be "seasoned" properly for performance applications. They actually suggest a used block for performance engines.

Exactly, a used block has gone thru heat cycles, done all its shifting so to speak so when rebuilt, it will stay put. For NOS reasons, use a new block, for performance, use a used block.

it's better to have a seasoned block for most, if not all applications, i'd prefer to season it myself though. each and every engine in our cars was new at some point. I'm not gonna build it up, stock application only. grocery getter. very right about the student block you are though. think will still bid for it, honestly for that price the sum of useable parts is well worth it no matter how many times it's been put together.

Before you bid you should investigate the seller.
