I hope he continues to run those Mahle's!
I really think I could have gone faster with them if I had made that cooling modification to the cylinder head on #4.
I never put two and two together on that one.
I was thinking it was fuel, when it was actually cooling that kept breaking those pistons. If I had not sold my short block to a guy in Hawaii I would run it again this year. I think it is very possible to run those cast Mahle's into the 10's, I really do.

Speaking of the cooling system mod, does any of the vendors sell a thermostat housing/thermostat that fits in that core plug?

Theres a couple mods but the one were talking about, you don't need another thermo housing,

I figure the one you're talking about is just adding the extra hose, I wouldn't mind moving the thermostat entirely, because I've been paying attention here at the dealership, and I have yet to see another 4cyl with the waterpump on the belt side that has had a thermostat inbetween 3/4, all of the ones i see here is after 4

I've seen it more than once...It looks to me to be the best way of solving the problem, except for thats just one more hose over on on the LH side of the head...I'm quick running out of cash (ordered con rods and egt tonight) so maybe i'll just forget about it as i'm in over my head money wise already, all I do is keep adding things to the list.

Eh.. do you happen to keep extra pistons in your car to casually replace on the side of the road? drainpans, oil containers, jackstands, and all?

No, lol! but usually, you can get a cast piston at any local autoparts store, so your racing and pop a piston, at least you can fix it and drive home. If you have some special order oversize forged, your driving it home with a crack or whatever piston damage you did-causing more damage or you fix it.
I was bringing this up, say your live in Vancouver, BC and your on vacation racing it! make sense now,

Ahh, I drove home from New Jersey over 100 miles on 3 cylinders with one knocking away (was cracked) and blowing blue smoke out the back. I just fixed it and 10 miles after the new piston install it was within 5 PSI of the other 3 cylinders on a compression check
