Hello. I am new to this site and just purchased my first TD. I got an '89 turbo caravan with a locked up engine. I plan on rebuilding it over the summer and it will be my first rebuild. I drive pretty hard and want to build this block to last with 20 lbs of intercooled boost. Can I reuse the rods if the pistons are bad (melted)? Will a three angle valve job make much difference ? When do I need to align hone the mains, if at all ? Any info is appreciated.

welcome to the board!

have a reputable machine shop look at it. if its locked up you could have bearing/crank/rod problems.
if you want 20lbs, and want it to last (even through a couple mis-haps), you might want to think about using forged pistons.

Like Adam said, when you take it to the machine shop have them look it over, they will tear it apart and tell you what it needs or doesnt need. Then based on thier reccomendations and the measurements they take, then you order your pistons, bearings ect. based on that information.

A 3 angle valve job will help flow a bit, seems these heads need all the help they can get. If you want better flow and a better insurance against detonation, throw a G head on there, they flow better and lower your comp. ratio.

Welcome to the board. Glad to have another van guy.
