I just read this post today, and I hate to see that Ed. I'd definately follow the advice about removing the pistons and hone the cylinders. The Scotch brite pads will get the rust off the surface, but won't do anything about the pits. The pits will wear your rings prematurely. Hopefully if it's not pitted very bad, a hone will take care of that though. If you need a hand with it, give me a shout. The job I'm waiting on doesn't start for another month so I'll only be working short term here and there. Besides, you need to see the new Daytona. I finally got around to doing to this one what I wanted to do to the CS.
Later,
Tony

You can't bore it, just de-glaze the cylinders with a bottle hone. But yes an in-frame overhaul is plenty possible, quite simple really.
My advice on this situation....soak cylinders for a day with marvel mystery oil. Turn the engine over once, then pull the pistons. The way your engine sits you are 75% there anyway, all you have to do is drop the pan and take the rod bolts off. Bottle hone the cylinder, buy a new set of rings and re-install. I would not re-use your old rings, it's worth the investment of a new set if you're gonna go through the trouble of tearing down the engine.
For forged pistons you would need to take the engine to the machine shop, I wouldn't bother just re-ring it and be done with it.

Cracker box is right I have been round TD's a while now seen a few blocks apart, they are not that bad, way easier then a headn and exhaust, and forged is always a good way to go, but if ya just runnin then engine not any thing big like stock it will run, my OFFROAD truck sat in a feild this winter, tried to start it had hyrdo lock, well ICE lock to be correct, just took out the pistons socked the cyclinders wth wd40 and sprayed the water out it still runs and pulls not as nice but it will last a while longer, and thats with 7 oz in 2 cyclinders
