I am tearing down my shortblock and I found small pieces of what looked to be brass. I looked around and didn't find any missing bushings...WTF? Kind of concerned, but glad I caught it when I did. Pulled out all the pistons and checked my rod bearing clearences and all were good....bearings looked really good. I will pull the crank out Thursday and hopefully find out where these peices came from. I also have some wear on the cylinder walls from the piston skirts...is this normal? Nothing big....I could easily get rid of it with a cylinder hone and about 30 seconeds.

Could be main bearing material if your crank is still in. You'll know when you pull it.

Where did you find the pieces? Are they pieces of piston rings?

If mains are OK, then +2. Turbo bearings are brass, at least all I have seen

It is most likely a bearing somewhere. The factory bearings are Tri-metal, and once they are worn past a point, you can see the brass.

I've seen it before, and if you haven't seen it on the rods, then its on the mains - or like Ken said, the intermediate shaft.

When i pulled my old original Garrett Turbo apart it had Aluminium bearings, not brass. I think only good aftermarket rebuilt turbos come with brass bearings like a TU turbo.

Don't be. I like large pictues...especially if they show detail like crank damage. Carnage is always more fun when you don't have to wonder what you are looking at

My pan didn't look like that at all. It was only 4 or so peices. Bearings and crank look new....almost no wear. Block has less than 30k on it. I am pulling it apart for the mighty 16 valve hybrid conversion. I want to post pics, but I don't know how to do it. I have them saved on my computer, I just need to post them on here. Anyone want to steer me in the right direction?
