is it possible to take a 90 n/a block and build it up for a turbo application.
just here say.......not cheapest way
i have a 90 n/a block just laying around. The thought of using it to build a superior engine over my 88 block crossed my mind. I could use it in a turbo application assuming i totally replace every part, right? or are they weaker than a turbo block. isn't it just a common block?

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I found a 91 2.2 NA motor. Get some HD rods from a T2 or 2.5 T1 engine, and you'll need turbo pistons as well. Beyond that, you'll have to drill a hole for the oil return for the turbo, but there's not much else to it.

What he said and you might have to drill the cross drill holes in the deck, some had them, some didn't.

i am aware of the differences in pistons and rods, but can you clarify cranks.
I know CB cranks are not interchangable with earlier blocks, and I know that 2.2 and 2.5 cranks are different. What i need clarifying is, are the cast TBI cranks the same or different from a cast turbo cranks?

I don't believe there is any difference between cast turbo and non turbo common block cranks. I've also converted a non turbo common block into a common block that is in the car right now.

To my knowledge, as far as Common Blocks go, there are three different cranks. 2.5, turbo'd or not, are cast. 2.2 TBI are also cast. And 2.2 Turbo (TII, TIII, TIV, and Masi headed) were all forged. There are some discrepancies concerning the 89 CSX-VNT and the Maserati TC, but that's the gist of it.

What he's saying is turbo to tbi, crank is the same-CB. He made a tbi CB into a turbo CB engine,

Ok, I'm a moron. Somehow I misread it and didn't realize he did the exact same thing I'm doing.

The turbo CB motors got the heavy duty rods, and the non-turbo CB motors got some really wimpy ones. You can tell a huge difference when they're side by side. Personally, the rods I'm using are from an 87 TII engine.
