I believe I broke #4 piston on my 87 GLHS as it only has 40 psi of compression and has lots of blow-by. I will be going to the salvage yard soon to get a new set of pistons. I would like to get a set of true TII rods and pistons. If I pull the rods and pistons from a TII car, can I bolt them right on to my crank without any other modification (besides honing the block)?

Also, what cars should I look for to have a TII. Will Daytonas probably be the most likely?

True t2 rods can be found on t2 cars... eg Turbo shelby intercooled and turbo lancer intercooled. Otherwise you can pick up t2 HD rods from an 89 and newer turbo car (any one). As for pistons. You'll need 2.2 non common block t2 pistons. Those must come from an 87-88 daytona/lancer intercooled. I hope that helps a bit.

yes, that helps. Whats the difference in CB and non-CB pistons? They are not interchangeable?

Actually I think the 87-89 t2 pistons are all the same. Double check that before you take my word for it.

Even CB turbo 2.2 pistons are the same, so your ok if you find them.

Um, not if you include the 16v motors! Just find any VNT or T2 car, you'll be fine. Also, Forward Motion sells used T2 pistons for around $15 if you don't feel like tearing an engine apart. Rods can be found cheap if you look around on the boards.

What is Forward Motion's website? When I go to Forwardmotioninc.com, and click on 2.2/2.5 parts, the only thing it says is "March specials coming soon"

If needing pistons.... take this as an opportunity to greatly upgrade the weakest link in your motor. Upgrade to oversized Mahle cast pistons, or JEs/Venolia's/ Weisco/etc... and get a set of the T-II rods machined for your engine. FWDPerformance and/or Turbosunleashed also sell a very good piston along with many other things FM doesn't.

Good point, there's a few forged sets for sale in our swap meet!

I don't need to bore over, so I am just going to get a set of used T2 rods and pistons. What swap meet are you talking about? I would love to have forged, but $430 is insane. $135 for new cast Mahles is pretty high too.

$135 is a bargain for the quality you get with the Mahles.

Some advice... if you get a set of used rods, don't simply install them on your crank without having the big ends re-sized.... even if they came out of a known running engine. After running X-amount of miles, they are no longer round and need to be machined.
