Is this part just a cylinder or is there supposed to be a ball in it too?

OK ... so the next question is,
Has anybody put a ball and spring into the restrictor?

To help keep oil in the head's gallery after he's shut down.

The idea makes sense, but the only mod I've heard of is people removing it completely.

It's in an oil gallery in the block. Looking from the front of the car, it's on the right hand side, front, closest to you. Removing it would not be concidered a mod IMO. Lower oil pressure will be a result and at very high rpms with high boost for extended periods, an over accumulation of oil in the valve cover area and eventual spraying out the pcv may happen.

Oh, I'm not planning on removing it, I'd like to make sure it's still there when the block comes back from the machine shop!

I don't think 2.2 CB's even got the oil restrictor, I heard it was a 2.5 only thing..
