I took my 86 2.2 turbo block to the machine shop to be cleaned, and checked, and I got bad news...

The previous owner went long periods without changing the oil and all the bearings are shot, and the crank has to be turned. Also the cylinders have to be bored as well.

Since the cylinders have to be bored I need new pistons. What should I get?
stock TI pistons? Or since I am this deep into it should I get TII pistons?
The guy said the rods are okay, just have to be cleaned, etc, but would it be a good idea to get TII rods as well?

I am going to be running 15+16 psi of boost in the end.
Can I still purchase these pistons/rods at the dealer?

thanks, any input and or suggestions would be great

also I was quoted $800 to rebuild it, including new bearings, cylinders being bored, cleaning of block, turning of the crank, new TI pistons, and reassembly. Is this a fair price?

It's an 86 so stock is LW rods and press fit piston pins. Definately get TII rods and at least TII Mahle pistons. As long as it is apart, Spend the extra $150 and get forged slugs. It's at the shop already. Why do things twice?

Exactly, I've lost track on how many pistons I have broken.

$800 is a fair price!

Make sure to use a Mopar head gasket when reassembling!

The only dealer part you need to buy is the headgasket, 005 is the last numbers otherwise everything else will be very expensive or discontinued.
Search here for parts. Forged pistons get them from www.********************
If you need rods, I have some. You might want to run ARP studs, there better and infinitley reusable. If your parts store can't find any, I can get some of those or bolts and some rod bolts for you and ship them out.
Gasket set, I like Corteco, there quality is far better than Felpro who seems to be slipping! Mmmmm anyother questions, post here or PM me!

I will check the rods on Monday as there used and need rebuilding. I will see what my machine shop charges and compare to Cindys price to see if its worth it for you.

If you get an engine overhaul set, pretty well everything you need. All gaskets, valve seals, cam, crank seals etc!
