block is a 88 2.2 turbo and the intermediate shaft has play where you can pull the intermediate sprocket in and out to hear an audiable clunk and notice a few thou of play in it, this will in turn knock the distributor out and put slop in the whole system yes? im wondering how one would fix this, is the bearing retainer wore out? doesnt seem to be. Also i have tryed two different intermediate shafts, still the clunk and play.. help...

not a problem.. very normal... are you using a gasket or anerobic sealer behind the seal housing? if using a gasket go with the sealer

I'm sure it was sealed with anerobic sealer. reason I stated about the gasket, is most gasket sets come with a gasket for this housing.. you don't need it IF you use sealer between the housing and block.
