Can excessive blowby cause oil to leak past the turbocharger oil seals and cause oil leakage into the compressor housing? My Omni has some blowby and oil is getting into the intercooler and pipes. The oil seems to be coming from the compressor housing.

I'm thinking it would because it would interfere with the oil draining correctly from the turbocharger center section, causing oil to backup in the return line.

I would suggest you seperate the source of the blowby.......
a general rule of thumb.......2 psi crankcase pressure at idle
a simple tool can be made out of a barbed fitting epoxyed to
an oil filler cap....attach pressure /vacuum gauge and check.
over 2......check pcv system ....closely!!!!! remember this is a "no boost"
test. if you have issues here its time to do a leakdown test and check
ring to cyl wall sealing,

Very interesting idea, hmmmmmmmmm. I guess depending on the amount of blowby, It that could happen. Is your PCV system hooked up into the turbo hoses?

Nope, no PCV system. I just have a heater hose clamped onto the valve cover PCV port which goes to a 20oz water bottle as a catch can. After 250 highway miles, the bottle is about 1/2 full.

There is oil collecting inside my intercooler and pipes, yet the turbocharger doesn't seem to have any shaft play.

WOW....that is some blow by.....but if your pcv dydtem isnt connected to your intake track or your intercooler tubes, its got no way to get into the turbo.....is your oil return line clogged at all, if it is it can force oil past the seals in the turbo even if your shaft play is good...you get shaft play from a bad bearing, not bad seals if i understand it correctly..

Yeah, I'm scared to do a compression test on it. I borrowed my compression tester to one of my friends and he returned it broken, without telling me of course

I'm going back to 2.2L soon enough so that will be my 'fix'. I just hope the turbocharger is still OK.

I had oil in my IC piping and out the BOV. I put on an evac kit and I now have no more oil in my IC piping or BOV.

I really like the pressure test idea Mech1 mentioned. I think I will try that and see how much vacuum the evac system pulls or not. Do not think I will use my CS oil cap though
