There is nothing wrong with sleeving a 2.2/5 eitehr, but adjacent sleeves, esp on a boosted engine is NG since there is not allot of "meat" to start with.

8's don't have the "meat" problem.

Is there a way to add meat in order to increase strength? How about 4 sleeves, moving the studs out further to give more space bore (possibly metal blocks welded to the outside of the block and have the studs go from the head to the block through those rather than inside the block), and add some more deck to the block? I am just shooting wild ideas.

Butch, is there a real picture of that girl or is it just an anime only photo?

No, you just fill the block with some special concrete and only circulate water thru the head...

you guys are being rediculous about the strength issue. unless your pumping 1000hp into this 4 cyl engine, a sleeve will work just fine and have plenty of strength.

Well, just my $0.02 on this, but my block (92 2.5 common block) is +1mm, and was professionally rebuilt when I got the Daytona it came out of. It has all 4 cylinders sleeved, thick sleeves. My machinist, who happens to be a bit of a drag racer himself, has assured me that the sleeving issue is non-existant in most cases as long as it is done by someone who knows what they are doing, boosted or not. Pretty much all of the brands of sleeves (some are cheap junk, of course) are stronger than the factory cast block in any case... kind of the same principle behind being able to run an aluminum block as long as it has sleeves in it.

No one has doubted that.
It's when adjacent cylinders are sleeved is where the problem lies when under boost.
I know 1st hand.

If you only circulate water through the heads can you still use the block on the street due to cooling problems?
