Well i just installed a brand new mp headgasket with a new intake ported exhaust manifold cleaned up the head castings, did a little work all around and im really not in the mood for redoing everything again in less than 2 weeks from the last time. I guess ill just pick up the rods and hang onto em for a common block for a car that isnt rusted out

Common block = 89+ block. All turbo 2.5's are common blocks, as are 89+ TII, TIV, TIII and well.... non-turbo 2.2/2.5's too!!! hahaha

Since nobody mentioned rods yet (lol)...
My 86 GLH threw a rod at 70k miles. Everything stock, including boost level. Luckily I caught it early enough to save the block, and I was able to cut the crank. I have an 88 TII that was not so lucky. The rod trashed everything, block, crank, piston and the oil pan.

No, but the blocks 89+ are all the same.

87+ TII's, 89+ TIV's and 89+ 2.5 TI's all have the heavy duty rods.
2nd best rods are 81-85. They're a direct swap for the LW rods since they're pressed pin

i wouldnt exactly take this as a recommendation, but ive been doing it for a while now

im running 19 psi on pump gas off of a garrett on my totally stock 120k tI 2.2 bottom end in my 86 omni. ported head, glhs stg II computer, afpr and a/f gauge so i know where i am. i always run it into the yellow going into red, 2.5 straight pipe, stock glhs intercooler, a555. i havent had any problems with it and i beat the living SHIT out of it haha.. it sees the full 19psi anywhere i can do it safely pretty much its not safe, but there is no way in hell im going back to 14 psi

im storing it for the winter and putting a new block and turbo in next spring anyway, so i dont really care if it explodes.. but i never really run into detonation, and im even running 14 degrees of base timing. my car is in great shape mechanically and it feels rock solid. a rod could go at any time, but such is life.. ill just hope for the best and enjoy it while it lasts

my best time so far has been a 14.5 at 100.5 mph with a 2.5 60'
thats spinning through third.. a 12 might be possible on my current setup with tires that could hook

Well since you killed a LW and HW rod, you're back at zero

I've only killed 1 rod and it was TII. So it seems like luck of the draw sometimes
