can an 86 block be rebuilt while still in the car if i pull the pan and the head? i want to put new pistons, rings, and rods in it. is it worth doing the crank too? if so can i pull it while the engine is still in the car?

thanks

you could probably do it, but it probably wouldnt last very long. If your already pulling the head, it'd only take 2-3 hrs at worse to drop the block out the bottom and have everything done the correct way at the machine shop. If you do it the other way, chances are you'll end up having to do it all over again very soon and you'll kick yourself for not doing it the right way the first time.

i have seen it done at a dealership once. they did it to a shadow. that seemed to hold up for quite awhile. but then that was n/a and driven by an older woman at the time.
