I heard today that E85 fuel is terrible for the motors in most cars, like running grass clippings in there. what does this mean for our turbo motors??

the only issues are it eats rubber seals and has less energy in it than gasoline.
but it is alcohol afterall, so you could crank the boost higher before getting detonation

Yeah, it's like 110 octane.. May need a custom cal to take full advantage of it. Maybe TU will start offering E85 cals once they get their dyno installed..

It is not a plug and play type of fuel. You can't just put it in a gasoline engine.

Unless your car doesn't use rubber hoses...

"M85 vehicles have a few problems... Number one among them is that M85 is highly corrosive! All the fuel system parts had to be rated for use with methanol and so was constructed with stainless steel! (The injectors are nickel plated internally) Also engine clearances were different and special engine oil was specified for use with M85 as well. Anything that could come in contact with methanol had to be tested and upgraded, even the valve guide seals are different! All methanol specific parts are tagged or painted green. "

one page mentioned that the $12/qt oil that mopar used in the meth engines were nothing more than penzoil IIRC...

Stainless or FFV stuff can be had in the yards pretty simply, running this stuff shouldn't be too hard, just gotta make sure a few things are okay, mainly the gas tank I would think, and the fuel lines. How well would high pressure silicone hose handle alky? would it eat it or anything?
