Today i borrowed the OTC 4000 from the shop to try to see if i had any knock retard on any of the cylinders. well i hooked it all up to my 88 lebaron with a TU custom 3 bar cal (which runs awesome) and all the values are pretty much completely inaccurate. under the datastream it says my idle is flucuating very fast between 6-7k i went to the knock retard mode and every cylinder is sitting at zero except for cylinder 2 which stays at 31 degrees even at idle. and none of them move at all, i took the car for a few 20psi runs. the coolant temp shows 0 degrees, spark advance shows 0 degrees, map voltage stays at about 5.12v, well you get the picture. just wondering if anyone had any input. i hooked up the same scanner to my other 88 turbo lebaron with all stock parts 2 bar cal, and it works flawlessly. im guessing its just my 3 bar cal, which is a real shame because at 25psi of boost i wish i could watch knock. i thought id post up here rather than bothering Paul at TU about it.

Thanks

KJ

Change application to 88 if using 89 ID, or change
to 89 if using an 88 ID. There is a difference in the
code as far as your scanner is concerned. If your
scanner is autodetecting the model hit no and select
the year you want.

Also be sure you are using an "A" code for engine
data and not a "J" code.

PS; you will still have inacurate MAP readings on your scanner
obviously due to the 3-bar maps output values being off.

Datalogging with Warren Halls "runlogger" corrects "boost"
readout on your laptop from the OTC.

Thanks for the reply. i am selecting 88 for the model year and engine code E for the 2.2 TI. i figured the map voltage and some of the stuff would be off, but just about everything is incorrect. you think trying different years, and engine codes would fix the issue?

well i just went out and played with it some more. i tried year model - 88 engine code A for TII did the same thing. i tried 89 J code for 2.5L TI, moved the knock retard to cylinder 1 instead of 2 lol. the same 31 degrees. some of the data changed, but still was incorrect. then i tried year 89 and went under engine code A and that did the same as 88 A. anything else i should try? later on tonight im going to try it on another lebaron, 89 with his own custom 3 bar cal and see what that does.

83-91 chrysler, ford, chevy. like i said, works fine on my other 88 lebaron turbo, and discovered tonight that it works flawlessly on my friends 89 turbo lebaron with his own custom 3 bar cal.

I suspect the problem is you still have not hit the correct combo for the cal used. If TU's base cal is an 89 you need to use that year. If I remember somewhere in the menu choices when setting it up for the car there is a selection for Other. I had to select Other myself for the scanner to like my RR cal. That was for the 89 year only if I am remembering correctly. PathFinder II cart.

There ya go Scott! Under SMEC ID select "other".

All of my different cals from different writters have been
based off the 88/A/other SMEC selection. Probably
because the original S-60 cal was written off of
it and modified from there?

I could be wrong, but I thought Paul was now using the '89 2.5 T1 codebase for all of his cals. Even the 2.2's. Maybe try the code for an '89 2.5 T1?
