when i bought my 89 lebaron gtc TII/5spd convt, the guy said that the barometric solenoid for the map sensor might be bad. so i took it out, and applied 12v to it, and i heard some noises. there is no engine codes, so if it is bad, would it cause any damage?

If it was bad your car wouldnt be able to compensate for atmospheric pressure changes, at sea level it might not be a big deal but go higher and you'll probably run rich and slow.

Don't know if there are yearly differences (mine is a 90') but when mine went bad I got a code 13 and it ran extremely rich at idle (I am at sea level). It HAD to be replaced!
