My Walboro 255 pump is going out after only a year and a half. I didn't want to bother Cindy about it so I figured someone on here would know. Is there any kind of warranty on these pumps?

Usually theres a one year warranty but she might extend it or cut you a deal on another one. Running them low on gas or not changing the fuel filter enough kills pumps.

I've got the same problem with a 255 I got from TU. It flat out DIED in the Taco Bell drive-through, I managed to restart it and sputter it into a parking space and that was it. 0 fuel pressure!!! 1-1/2 years old and maybe 30K miles on the pump. It had filters changed, once when I put it in and once after that.

How low on gas is too low on gas? 1/8 tank? 1/4 tank? And why should low fuel levels matter if the pump sits in that plastic well in the tank and the return line pours its fuel into it?

Aftermarket pumps.... 30k miles is about all they're good for.

I've never had a walbro unit myself, but they are so cheap.....

Dude, thats a funny oxymoron statement. Walbro, Carter MAKE the OEM pumps, so the aftermarket pump you put in is the same one you took out.

You should never go below 1/4-1/8. The fuel lubes the pump and keeps it cool. If you run it low on gas, it destroys the pump. Think of running an engine with no coolant!

I'd think that as long at the engine is still running, that means fuel is going through the pump, thereby lubricating and cooling it. Right? Maybe not?

No, not really. The reason an external pump is more expensive is that it is designed to cool as the fuel is pumped through it. An internal pump is designed to cool by being submerssed in fuel. Being submerssed in a coolant is much more efficient.

So if the pump needs to have fuel all around it, why do they get that foam rubber sleeve put over them on installation? That covers (and, I would think, insulates) the pump body.

I think in-tank fuel pumps are a totally retarded idea. Not only is it a pain to change pumps, but the thought of an electric motor running in GASOLINE doesn't sound good to me either!

Please state how many gas tanks have exploded due to intank fuel pumps being used?

I don't know, I just think it's a bad idea when I have to drop the tank to get at it, compared to swapping out the fuel pump on a Slant Six or 360 V-8 Mopar engine.

My wallbro crapped out at the strip and almost cost me a motor. Lucky I had alcohol in addition to keep the engine from grenading. I even have the video of this pass as I outlaunched a 10 second all wheel drive and then fell flat on my face.

The aluminum nipple on the end of the output tube fell off. This blew the hose off the pump in the tank because now the hose has nothing to hold on to. Be careful with these, I've seen this twice already with Wallbros.
