I have a brass float that has taken on some gas and no longer floats. Anybody deal with this before? Soldering it isn't a big deal but I need to get the gas out without tearing the float up, and I don't want it exploding when heat is applied. I have thought about using some sort of paint on or spray on sealer but not sure how it would react over time setting in gasoline. Any help appreciated. Thanks

i think some sort of epoxy would be too heavy and may change the reading but you could drill small hole where leak is and solder it. there is epoxy out there and it will not break down in gas and it may not change float weight enough to notice. i have had to repair floats in old motorcross bike carbs. that were not available anymore and i soldered them.

Thanks Scotty. I will probably try the solder (after the gasoline fumes have vacated). BTW this float is for my 62 Belvedere, where a new sending unit for it is $115.00 and they won't sell the float seperate.

I'd try the solder before anything else. To drain the fuel out of the float, just let it sit for a few days, if you've got the time.
