just got my head milled .007, and it was previously .010. is .017 enough to even notice? i have a 89 cb with glhs maping, stock cooler and it hasnt ran good enough long enough to play with the boost. i didnt plan on running more than 18-20 lbs. is milling the head enough to notice any thing on the top end, maybe due to retarded cam timing? i dont think that ill have a problem, but im better at assembly than avoiding reassembly.

It could make a difference but the MP gasket is thicker than stock so it will help take up some of the metal removed.

Felpro makes a .020 copper head shim, I recently bought one. $18. had to order it, took 2 days from Auto Zone. Better safe than sorry.

i talked with cindy and she said they make different thickness mls headgaskets, but they are int the 100$ range, way too much for a cheap bastard like me. when i asked the machinist if they just throw it on the belt sander, he gave me a look and said "belt sander" is a dirty word. so being the surface was milled parrallel with the cam centerline, i dont see how belt walk is posible, but maybe thats a side effect of "belt sanding". i was more concerned with tuning with higher boost, like .010 of milling is worth 2 lbs boost or something like that. i like it better when you guys do my r&d.

You don't belt sander heads. If the timing belt walks, its too loose or too tight, can't remember which one.

.010 is nothing.

I had a problem of the timing belt riding the inside edge and rubbing. Everyone kept telling me I had a belt tension issue.

Nickel loose or million dollar tight, it changed nothing as to how the belt ran. The problem was a bad belt. A new Mopar one saved the day. Even with the new belt, tight or loose doesn't change where the belt rides one little bit.

Thats just my experience. I've done lots of timing belts on lots of engines and never had a walking issue. I never used a tension guage to this day.
