88 turbo 2 with the full super sixty kit, ran ok but got a cal computer from fwd
set for 7500. Engine has only 5 hours of autocrossing and tuning time on it.
I have pulled the injectors and swapped their locations. plugs were sooty on 1 + 2 ok on 3 + 4. Swapped in clean plugs same readings on plugs.
Revs go to 5500 if full on floor and 6000 if teased up. just bounces on rev limit
Using a new tattle tale tach to observe operation
compression test ok
voltage 13.9 volts running
idle -10 inches
oil 40 - 60 psi
fuel at rail is 50 - 60 psi
at full power on track poost is about 18 psi
o2 sensor seems to be working .5 - .6 volts and moves with vacuum leak .18v
.7 - .8v with rich mode
msd 6a ignition NO REV CONTROL IN IT
tested after each of the following tests, no change in rev limits:
pulled sensors one at a time ohm readings ok
pulled knock sensor wire
water temp ok
I do not have a clue at this point and have emailed FWD for ideas also
Wonder if the recal is real ? Can I bypass the internal rev limit or test the limit in some way? IDEAS? Thanks Woody
3" exhaust, no cat
idle and mid range is ok

Woody these engines are not really made to rev past 5500 RPM. the cal probably has the limit set to about 6000 for engine safety's sake. I don't think Cindy would make a cal with such a high rev limit, even if your engine was built to, as it would open a door of liability on her part if the engine blew.

STOCK rev limiter is over 6k. 6250 for 2.5's and i think 6500 for 2.2's

Woody,
your rev limiter was set to 7000 rpm.
The low vacuum and inability to go past 5500 sounds like a cam timing issue. It is possible that you are off one tooth on the timing belt.
I will look into your cal more specifically once I get into work this morning, and if i see anything unusual, I'll let you know.
Later,
Cindy

no vac leak, if one is introduced the engine readily revs up about 800 rpm. cam is 100 % on the mark per the factory check sheet, at 0 degrees TDC, the distributor, timing mark, cam gear "arrows" all are on the mark(s).
rev limiter bounces from 5500 to 6000 with WOT, painted the cam 'belt' gear and watched it under the timing light, it was absolutely SOLID, no jitter the flywheel had some scatter at LOW speed but smoothed out above 2000 or so. THe cam belt under the timing light looks fine nothing odd here, as I rev up; the cam gear position rotates back and forth which is the distributor advance curve coming in and out dependant on rpm. THis is what id would expect as the dist sets the timing of the timing light flash relative to the crank and therefore the cam belt...
pulled distributor looks ok cleaned all interior and shutters, only a few degrees of WINK when installed in block, seems solid in all ways , cap and rotor button closely cecked for any soot, cracks looseness, etc. all good.
wires are almost new , idle ok and loping. Vacuum is more like 14 inches.....this is a super 60 cam on the aluminum factory special head. All hoses new and all checked including the PVC operation.
THe engine without load should rev to 7000 plus easily but the tach doesnt lie, rev limit of 6000 and a 5500 at WOT if held to floor. THe coil will throw a spark of 1.5 inches easily if the main lead is not installed in the coil.
Added a 19,000 mfd capacitor the 12v leads feeding the coil per MSD trouble shooting hints, no deviation.
Coil is a MSD blaster 2.
Id like to move the error to a higher rev limit or lower to see some thing that affects the symptoms, AAURGH!
runs good up the limit and Cindy spoke to me several times today to assist this debug program, she is going to confirm the limit was to be 7200 and about 7000 cut-back-in rev point.
FWD is responsive ( on this and previous orders) and that is significant in todays market.
Looking for the ah--haw that is it, where to look? It really looks like a rev limit as the motor does this limit at the same rpm band independent of temperature, plugs, injector location, ??? dumb=founded.......Woody
