this has happend to me twice. I will start the car up, to rough running, off the scale rich on the wideband, and 400 deg EGT's in # 4 (where the probe is). after it did it the first time, i drove it for a while (5min), then restarted it and it ran fine, but i went home and pulled the plugs, #4 smelled like gas so i replaced all 4 plugs. Then, it did it again the other day, started it up, super rich low EGT, and smelled like gas. Could my #4 injector be getting stuck open or something like that?
Thanks in advance,
Billy

Any Codes? Yes it is possible the injector is having a problem. You could swap #1 AND #4 injectors. If the problem happens again, check both plugs and see if the problem moved to #1 cylinder.
The other problem might be living in Fairfax County, Va. I know all to well about the problems of living there....LOL!!!

My brothers GLHS does that sometimes in the winter...we haven't found the problem yet. Let us know what you find.

Yes, he swapped injectors, cap, rotor, wires, checked grounds, etc and so far, he hasn't found it. I don't think he swapped the coil or injector harness, although, I once shook the harness around trying to get it to duplicate the problem (thinking there could be a short) and couldn't do it. It's strange..once the car runs for a little bit, it runs like a top.

Maybe try hooking up an oscilloscope to the injector wiring to see the pulse width of the signal. Although we already established that it isn't the injector. But it still might help.

Decided I would post an update. I pulled the plugs and all 4 had a little oil and blackness on the threads, #3 and #4 smelled of gas. 1 and 2 may have but If they did it was not as strong of an odor as 3 and 4. The head is new, pistons, rings new etc. (less than 1000 miles). So Im sort of thinking pcv system??? I looked at the valve and it looks clean and the spring/metal thing inside looks clean as well... So I dont know if it has something to do with it sucking oil while its cold and the oil fouling the plugs. Or if its something with my injector wiring/injectors etc.

Pat, how do your brothers plugs look/smell when he pulls them? Does he notice any oil in the cylinders or on the plugs when he pulls them? Does installing a fresh set of injectors cure the problem for the first few startups???

what condition are the plug wires. sometimes they get a break in the lines and when they warm up they will connect again.

Ive had that happen with a bad head gasket before. The car would run totaly fine until you shut it off and let it sit, then when you started it the thing would missfire on cyl. 4 until it cleared the coolant off the plug then it would smooth right out. It was really odd.
