Is there a way to test an injector? I have a set from an '86 T1 and a set from an '88 T1 (or T2 I can't tell). I'm wondering before I install either set if there is a way to get them tested. I could rig up something but I'd rather not. I'm cheap so before someone says to simply get another set at $125.00 I'd rather see if I have an already good working set.

Does anyone know how to go about testing these without putting them on a working engine? The rebuild is not yet complete on the engine and when I crank it I want to be sure that everything is right. It makes troubleshooting easier

Yep... get a injector "harness plug" from the JY or whatever if you have one lying around. Very quickly, and I mean very quickly, touch the wires to the grd and pos on your batt. Then you will hear an audible "click" if it works. If no click. no good.... or you can do it like this....

Thanks, I also found this via google.

Clicking on the link you provided shows me the method to 'rebuild' the injector. Cleaning it with an ultrasonic cleaner won't take much since there is one at my brother's shop. The next question is are the rebuild kits avaiable anywhere? Or for the $15 that the link above charges to rebuild injectors perhaps I could snag an extra set from the bone yard and send them in. For $60 to have a 'clean' and good set of injectors would be a good deal.

Mr Injector... he's on ebay... look him up. Do it yourself. He provides the steps and also all new "caps/pintle covers," filters, and all the O-rings and anything else. I think it was like $12 total. He's on ebay and has a good product. Call him if you have any questions as he is very knowledgable and a great guy.

I installed my injectors into my fuel rail and hooked up the harness; then pointed it up in the air and turned over engine for couple secs, watched each pair fire couple time, watched that each sprayed decent (and not piddled or squirted)

if I find a decent used fuel pump I plan to build a little test rig with a 1 gal gas can, 12 volt power supply, fuel pressure regulator (used fuel rail), fuel P gauge, stopwatch, and a graduated cylinder ; this way I can bench test each injector AND verify that a 27#, 33#, +20, or +40 is flowing proper rate

maybe I'll use kero to be alittle safer ? otherwise outside with a nice breeze

yep, that's basically what the "cleaners" do. They just use a different cleaning solution...

you definately want to have a professional injector guy check them out..they can be checked at home if they open and close, but as temp rises they can flow a helluva lot less than perfect ones
