Had my car on the dyno saturday, and with a scanner. The scanner showed no info from the knock sensor and it was pinging badly at 13psi and 9 degrees of intial timing.
Whats up? Should there be voltage to the sensor 100% of time? Any suggestions on what i can do to fix this??

some calibrations especially MP or custom cal's may not use the knock sensor signal; therefore may not send it to the serial scanner port

sposedly you can test your knock sensor by hooking a sensitive voltmeter directly to it and tapping/hitting theintake mani with a hammer (simulating knock) you should see a little jump in the voltage altho maybe not depending on how fast yor meter is ; i spose an oscilliscope would be best but you coult try a VOM first

Hey Bill,

I'm also running one of Gary's 88 cals. The instructions came with the correct codes to enter into the scanner so it would sync up to the cal correctly.

I use an OTC 4000E and I'm able to monitor knock retard in all four cylinders with this his cal

I was able to test my sensor by banging on the intake beside the sensor with a 1/2" extension and a hammer while the engine was idling. It would show knock activity on the scanner.......it took a fairly heavy blow to register anything though

There no power to the knock sensor. When knock is present, a AC voltage is create on the tip on the sensor. Oscilloscope is the best tool to see if it work .
