i'm sorry, but what does an adjustable fuel pressure regulator do again? is it like a boost controller for the fuel? i plan on running a lot of boost in the future, so is an AFPR a necessity?

Your stock fuel pump is capable of producing about 100 + psi so that there is sufficent fuel pressure and volume at all conditions but the max fuel rail pressure required to run is 57 psi. To control this a vacuum operated spring pressured diapram (fuel pressure regulator) is used to send excess fuel back to the tank. The factory FPR is pre-calibrated for a certain max pressure.
With certain performance mods that rail pressure may be to high and an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator will allow you to fine tune your fuel needs according to the mods that were installed.
You will have to wait for the Performance Guru's to find out when you will need this and other mods you will need to go with it.

How much boost are you talking? What performance upgrade's are you adding to the engine? It is a needed part in performance(has Jan^ stated above). When you start tuning an engine, you want to be able to tune everything so it all works together properly.
Things i'd suggest if you havn't already for tuning it...
adjustable cam sprocket
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
wideband o2

whats the adjustable cam sprocket do over stock sprocket? i plan on getting the car up to around 20psi of boost, and i already have a 255 l/hr fuel pump installed and plan to put in +40 injectors. as for the wideband o2, im still debating on it, due to price. i was thinking of using the a/f guage from TU. they said its more accurate than other guages, but not as accurate as a wideband.

The adjustable cam sprocket is another tuning instrument(like a wideband and AFPR). Say your off on your timing by half a tooth, you can't make up for that half tooth on a stock cam sprocket, but on an adjustable you can get it dead on it. Timing is as big for performance as A/F ratio's. Skip the narrowbands, they won't help you like you are thinking. A wideband is the only way to go. 20psi! sweet, but are you seriously thinking a narrowband will aid in tuning the engine for that 20psi? No, plan and simple. It is not the right instrument to use for almost any performance application.
The o2 has to be of good quality, and your vehicle has to be able to operate with it. The o2 on these car's can be a ghost at first, then you can start seeing issue's... The Mopar unit isn't much more(when I went to the dealership it was like 63 bucks, but a bosch 56 or so). The whole idea is to equip the engine with parts that will help keep it running strong, and give you what you need to have a safe, reliable ride. If your going to skip out on thing's cause of the price... Don't get into the high performance setup, you will only hurt the engine.
+40s without the proper cal will only give you crappy mileage, and flood the engine. This is another ~ there only needed if you have the right stuff to use them part.
If you really want to run 20psi check out the parts list on page 5 of my cardomain... It will give you an idea of what you will need to get to do it, reliably and safely.

well, i was going to put a stage 5 calibration ecu on the car (the one from FWD) to help the "flooding issue"; also, what will and EGT guage do? is it the same concept as a wideband o2?

Did you understand the way a turbo worked when you first got into them? You learn by reading information, observing the action's the devise doesn't.
My point, anything and everything can be taught and learned
Autometer has a really sweet one out. I've been told its on top of the list of widebands right now.
