my rev limiter is kicking in at 4500 rpms and i dont know why. the car is a 91 2.5 auto. it has fwd cal, stage 3, all of a sudden it started have a rough idle when first started and i cant go past 4500 rpm. i checked the codes and got water temp sensor, tps, and 53(something wrong with cal). i bought new water and tps sensor and it still does the same thing. i dont have my stock cal either or i would throw that in there. help me

Is it actually the rev limiter or is it dying out. The rev limiter is fairly violent in our cars so you definitely know when you hit it. I'd start with checking your plug wires, cap/rotor, and spark plugs. make sure the gap is correct and nothing is damaged. Next would be fuel pressure, make sure it isn't dropping off at high RPM's. This could be an indication of a plugged filter or dying pump. From there make sure all your engine grounds are in good shape and connected.

with a tps problem it will go into a limp mode, part of which is a lower rev limit. it may not be the sensor itself, but the wiring. are you still getting a tps code even after the new tps?

Here's your problem:

It's not the rev limiter. Your cam timing is off and the motor is cutting out early. Re-set your cam timing.
