fuel pacer lamp is also known as a 'shift indicator light' or SIL
designed to tell drivers WHEN to shift for better economy ; many models of cars have these in the instrument clusters but many do not use them - it depends on how the car was originally calibrated (manual trans obviously); anyhoo - not necessary ; you could use it as a warning light or a 'knock sensor' light (custom cal?)
when EPA testing for fuel economy, the automakers can either use the base EPA M/T shifting pattern - 15mph/25/35/45 ; or they can do a customer 'shift survey' to see what speeds customers shift at ; then sometimes they add a SIL which sometimes results in customers shifting a little earlier = better fuel economy
